How Bowen technique may help
"The most common presentation is back pain, however Bowen addresses the whole body and conditions including frozen shoulders, neck pain, hay fever, asthma and migraines." [1]
"A single treatment of the Bowen Technique significantly increases the flexibility of the hamstring muscles ... and maintains this level of increase for one week, demonstrating continuing improvements." [2]
Like many complementary therapies, the Bowen Technique aims to assist the natural healing mechanism of the body by relaxing muscles to affect the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems.
The Bowen Therapy Professional Association (BTPA), one of the associations that maintains a register of Bowen practitioners, provides testimonials from Bowen clients (with the following conditions) who have reported some benefit after receiving Bowen Therapy treatment.
This does not imply that you will get the same benefit from Bowen Therapy for your condition - if in doubt, consult your GP.
| Ankle and Foot problems | Neck pain / Whiplash | |
| Asthma | Pelvic Pain | |
| Back Pain | Pregnancy / Fertility problems | |
| Breast Pain | Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) | |
| Frozen Shoulder | Sciatica | |
| Hamstring problems | Sports injury | |
| Hayfever | Tennis elbow | |
| Jaw problems | ||
| Knee problems | ||
| Menstrual problems | ||
| Migraine |

Some health insurance schemes will pay for Bowen Therapy treatments.
If you have any health issue, you should seek advice from a competent and qualified health practitioner. If you are unsure what is causing your symptoms, you should not rely on a Bowen therapist to diagnose your condition, unless they also have training in a primary healthcare discipline (e.g. Osteopathy or Medicine).
