What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of altered and heightened awareness during which your subconscious mind is more open and receptive to positive beneficial suggestions.
We drift in and out of different levels of awareness many times a day, absorbing information on a subliminal level as well as a conscious one. Have you ever driven home and suddenly realised that you don't remember anything about the journey? Or have you ever been so engrossed in watching a film or reading a book that the world around you seems to disappear for a while? You have been in a trance state.
While you are in a comfortable, relaxed and receptive state, your hypnotherapist can help you to reprogram your own subconscious mind to help you to alleviate problems that you have in your life, or even to help you to improve your health.
While it may feel as if your logical, conscious mind is always in control of your day-to-day life, most of our decisions and behaviours are actually governed by subconscious processes. This is very useful, as it means we don't have to think consciously about lots of things, like driving or riding a bike once we have learned how to do it. But it's not so helpful when we are trying to change things.
Hypnosis can help you to talk directly to your subconscious mind so that it understands the changes you are trying to make in your life.
Your hypnotherapist acts as a guide, helping you gain a relaxed, trance state in which you can communicate with your subconscious mind and clarifying with you the changes you wish to make. She will provide you with the tools, it is then up to you how you use them.
Every person is unique and different. Some people say that their body feels like a lead weight, other say they feel as though they're floating away. Most people will agree that it's a lovely feeling because they are more relaxed than they have ever been before.
The best way to describe it is like that comfortable state just before dropping off to sleep or waking up. You are sleepy and relaxed but conscious of how cosy and warm the bed is.
While hypnotised you will be aware of all physical sensations around you, perhaps even noticing sounds you wouldn't otherwise be aware of. You may be able to recall everything that was said while you were in the trance state, depending on how deeply you experienced your trance.
Hypnotherapy for WEIGHT CONTROL
Hypnotherapy can help you to control your eating habits by changing your relationship with food. Maybe you just need that extra boost to eat more healthily and no longer crave those fattening foods.
Hypnotherapy for CHANGE
If you have a habit, a behaviour or a phobia that you wish to change, then hypnotherapy can help you to achieve this more easily - with the assistance of your own subconscious mind. Making changes is much easier if you have your subconscious mind working with you rather than against you.
Hypnotherapy for RELAXATION
The essence of hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxed state. Many of us lead such busy, full lives that we never take the time to relax deeply. This is a shame as the body and mind do most of their healing work when they are properly relaxed - and slumping in front of the television is not the same as relaxation!
When your body and mind are properly relaxed there is a physiological change in the body, with different hormones being released to those that dominate when we are busy or stressed. This has important implications for your health and well being.
Many problems, such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, anxiety and depression have been directly related to excess stress and not enough relaxation in our lives. Your hypnotherapist can teach you how to relax and how to manage your stress better.
Hypnotherapy for CONFIDENCE
Hypnotherapy can help with those stressful events in life such as exams, public speaking, important sporting competitions, driving tests or visits to the dentist, that make many of us feel nervous or lacking in confidence.
Hypnotherapy for STRESS and ANXIETY
Anxiety is a natural reaction to stress and allows you to deal with certain situations. However, when these feelings enter other areas of your life it can become overwhelming and create a problem in itself. Hypnotherapy can help by placing you back in control and able to cope.
Hypnotherapy can help with many problems, both psychological and physical - far too many to list individually. If you feel that it may help you and would like to have an informal chat, please call the clinic and book a session with our qualified hypnotherapist.
