Custom made orthotics range from £130.00 to £260.00
A basic fitting using template orthoses can reduce the cost of your appliances, but for complex foot problems, a specialist cast of your foot will need to be made (at a higher cost). Additions or cut-outs can be incorporated and the type of plastic used will depend on your weight and the needs of your feet. Minor adjustments to these devices can be performed (but this may require sending the orthoses back to the factory).
Heat moulded (off-the-shelf) Orthotics cost £46.00
A standard, semi-rigid orthotic can be used as a starting point - these can be adjusted slightly using a heat gun to soften the arch (which then hardens after 5 minutes).
Silicone insoles (various sizes and types) available, from £15.50 to £25.00
A range of insoles are available to allow shock absorption in certain parts of the sole or heel, or raises under the ball of the foot to encourage better foot function.
Your podiatrist can advise which type of orthotic or insole would provide you the most benefit.
